Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) is a mobile telecommunications company in Namibia providing cellular access. It is currently the largest mobile operator in Namibia with over one million active subscribers.[1] MTC was established in 1994 and was the only cellular provider in Namibia at that time. Today its competitors in Namibia are Leo and Telecom Switch.

Before Leo and Telecom Switch entered the market, MTC had the monopoly on mobile telecommunications and 3G Internet access. MTC is still the most recognized company of the three Namibian competitors.

Ownership

MTC is owned to 66% by Namibia Post and Telecommunications Holdings (NPTH), which in turn is fully owned by the Namibian Government. A further 34% of MTC is owned by Portugal Telecom (PT).[2]
